Vehicle manufacturers announce Oct 2011 sales figure

Toyota Records 63pc Growth
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) registered a growth of 63pc in the month of October 2011, when compared to the same period last year. The company sold 10,762 units in October 2011 as compared to 6,602 units in October 2010. The growth in sales is mainly driven by Toyota’s latest entrants Etios and Etios Liva , which sold 3,405 and 2,454 units respectively.
The Innova, Corolla Altis and Fortuner sold 3411, 700 and 763 units respectively.
“The production in October has been low due to the festive holidays. However, we have registered a growth in sale last month. The Etios continues to drive the sales growth. ” said Sandeep Singh, Deputy Managing Director - Marketing, TKM.
The company registered a cumulative growth of 68pc. It sold 1,06,246 units from January 2011 to October 2011 when compared to 63,158 units in the same period last year.
Market conditions affect sales
Hyundai India Oct’11 sales down by 7.5pc
Hyundai Motor India HMIL registered a 7.5pc decline in cumulative sales for the month of October, 2011. While domestic sales dropped by 5pc, exports declined by 12.4pc.
HMIL’s aggregate sales for the month were 48,325 units against 52,217 units in October, 2010. Domestic sales were 33,001 units against 34,720 units in the corresponding month last year; exports were 15,324 units against 17,497 units in October 2010.
Commenting on October 2011 sales, Arvind Saxena, Director - Marketing and Sales, HMIL said, “We have seen that sales get a boost in the festival season but this year sentiment has been tepid. We don’t expect a major upswing in the near future, the challenging economic environment is affecting industry. The Eon has been received well, we have got more than 9,000 bookings till date.”
The segment-wise cumulative sales for October, 2011 are: A2 segment (Eon, Santro, i10, i20) 41,204 units; A3 Segment (Accent and Verna) 6,929 units; A5 segment (Sonata Transform) 2 units; Santa Fe (SUV) 190 units.
India Yamaha clocks sales growth of 26.8 pc
After receiving a terrific response from the recently launched YZF-R15 Version 2.0 coupled with the seasonal festivities, India Yamaha Motor clocked a growth of 26.8pc in motorcycle sales during October 2011 as compared to the corresponding period last year. It sold 47,240 units in October 2011 as against 37,251 units sold in October 2010. In domestic markets, the company sold 38,229 units in October 2011 as compared to 31,791 units sold in the same month last year, a growth of 20.3pc. The export figures stood at 9,011 units in October 2011 while 5,460 motorcycles were exported in October 2010, a growth of 65pc.
Commenting on the occasion, Jun Nakata, Director-Sales & Marketing, India Yamaha Motor said, “We have established a firm foothold within 150cc+ segment in the Indian motorcycle market with the R15 version 2.0, FZ series & SZ series gaining much traction and getting accolades from our esteemed customers. The new R15 has been very well received in the market with bookings superseding the supply. The festive season has also played a vital role in catapulting sales for Yamaha this month. We are confident that the momentum will sustain in the long run and help us in redefining our sales graph.”
Tata Motors October sales at 68,009 nos.
Tata Motors’ total sales (including exports) of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles in October 2011 were 68,009 vehicles, higher by 5pc over October 2010. The company’s domestic sales of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles for October 2011 were 63,838 nos., higher by 9pc over 58,806 nos., sold in October last year.
Cumulative sales (including exports) for the company for the fiscal are 467,669 nos., a growth of 5pc over 444,869 nos., sold last year.
The company’s sales of commercial vehicles in October 2011 in the domestic market were 38,714 nos., a 13pc growth compared to 34,328 vehicles sold in October last year. LCV sales were 21,892 nos., a growth of 6pc over October last year. M&HCV sales stood at 16,822 nos., a growth of 23pc over October last year.
Cumulative sales of commercial vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal are 281,848 nos., a growth of 18pc over last year. Cumulative LCV sales are 168,792 nos., a growth of 24pc over last year, while M&HCV sales stood at 113,056 nos., a growth of 10pc over last year.
The passenger vehicles business reported a total sale and distribution offtake of 25,746 nos. (25,124 Tata + 622 Fiat) in the domestic market in October 2011, lower by 3pc compared to 26,503 nos. (24,478 Tata + 2,025 Fiat) in October last year. Sales of Tata passenger vehicles for October 2011 are at 25,124 nos., a growth of 3pc over October last year. Sales of the Tata Nano were 3,868 nos., higher by 26pc over October last year. The Indica range sales were 10,812 nos., higher by 11pc over October last year. The Indigo range recorded sales of 6,268 nos., lower by 24pc over October last year. The Sumo/ Safari/ Aria/ Venture range accounted for sales of 4,176 nos., a growth of 23pc over October last year.

Ford India reaches 100,000 sales milestone, has 31c growth
Ford India sold 101,439 wholesale and export vehicles from January to October, compared to 77,324 units sold during the same period last year – a 31 percent increase compared to the same time in 2010. Ford India has sold more vehicles in the first ten months of 2011 than the 2010 calendar year.
In October 2011, the company had combined wholesales and exports of 10,906 units.
“The festivities at Ford India are continuing past Diwali," said Michael Boneham, president and managing director, Ford India. "We are so proud that more than 100,000 customers in India have chosen to drive a high quality, fuel efficient Ford vehicle. More customers in the first ten months of this year have chosen Ford than the entire 12 months of 2010. Having crossed last year's sales figures already, we are upbeat about closing the year with a new high," he added.
Ford Figo continues to see a surge in demand as Ford India exported 2,815 cars last month, indicating the popularity the small car enjoys in 27 markets to which it is exported.
“Exports are a strong part of our growth strategy. And it's wonderful to see the Chennai-made Figo winning hearts of customers in overseas markets too," Boneham said.
Maruti Suzuki sells 55,595 units
Car market leader Maruti Suzuki India Limited sold a total of 55,595 vehicles in October, 2011. This includes 4,137 units for export.
The labour unrest at company’s Manesar plant during October 2011 adversely impacted the production and sales numbers. The Company lost production of over 40,000 units (Gurgaon and Manesar) in the month.
Volkswagen sells 7,266 units
The Volkswagen brand sold 7,266 vehicles in the month of October 2011, a growth of 67 percent over 4343 vehicles sold in October 2010.
Despite the sluggish market, the Polo and the Vento continue to bring in the numbers for the brand during the festive season with a total of 6814 units sold in October 2011.

Honda Siel Cars India registers 4.8pc growth
Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI), leading manufacturer of premium cars in India, sold 5,526 units in the month of October 2011 as against 5,275 units during the corresponding month last year registering a growth of 4.8pc.Model wise break-up: Brio: 1220; Jazz: 463; City: 3376, Civic: 281; Accord: 172, CR-V: 14
Hero MotoCorp registers retail sales of over 6.5 lakh units
Hero MotoCorp recorded over 6.5 lakh unit retail sales of two-wheelers in the month of October 2011, thus registering a strong double digit growth over the corresponding month last year. It also surpassed the previous highest of over six lakh retail sales recorded in the month of October 2008.
Overall, Hero MotoCorp dispatched 512,238 units of two-wheelers in the month of October 2011, compared to 505,553 units dispatched in the corresponding month last year, thereby keeping up the momentum of consistent five lakh-plus unit sales every month.
Anil Dua, Sr. Vice-President (Marketing & Sales), Hero MotoCorp Ltd said, “We have been reaching new milestones this fiscal and the highest ever October retail sales is no exception. We are delighted with the response of the customers this festival season. The strong double digit growth in our retail sales in October clearly indicates that our new brand identity, campaign and recent launches have received great acceptance from our customers.”
Nissan India sales jump 164pc
Nissan Motor India Private Ltd (NMIPL) today announced sales of 2,990 units in October representing a 164pc year-on-year increase. Sales were driven by the recently launched all-new Sunny sedan which accounted for 1,340 of the October total. To date SUNNY – which is manufactured in India at Nissan’s Oragadam plant - has already achieved more than 2,000 orders just six weeks after its Mumbai launch. The Micra compact premium hatchback, also produced in Oragadam, continues to be Nissan’s top-selling model and accounted for 1,619 unit sales last month – a 52pc increase compared to 2010.
The X-Trail lifestyle SUV, Teana premium sedan and iconic 370Z sports car comprised the remaining sales.
Kiminobu Tokuyama, Managing Director of Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd commented: “October’s sales are very encouraging and demonstrate the sustained progress Nissan is making within the Indian market. Sunny is available through Nissan’s 45 dealerships nationwide, priced at Rs. 578,000 for its XE base variant, Rs. 688,000 for its XL mid variant and Rs. 768,000 for top XV variant (ex-showroom Delhi).
Audi India sells 4,692 cars
Audi India has clocked 4,692 cars from January to October 2011, thus recording a growth of 85pc (January – October 2010: 2,535 cars). The luxury carmaker recorded sales of 482 cars in October 2011, a 35 percent growth over the same period last year (October 2010: 357 cars).
